Technical overview
The Galvion ARC Blast Shield is the anti-ballistic and anti-blast visor for the Batlskin V50 helmet system designed for operations where the primary threat to the operator's face is not the firearm projectile — covered by the helmet's standard ballistic protection — but the overpressure wave, propelled fragments, and detonation debris from improvised explosive devices (IEDs), demolition explosives, and fragmentation grenades in confined spaces.
The visor manufactured in 6-millimeter total thickness multilayer ballistic polycarbonate — three layers of optically high-clarity Bayer MakroSafe polycarbonate bonded by high-impact-resistance PVB interlayers — provides V50 anti-fragment rating of 250 fps against 1.1-gram steel fragments, meeting the MIL-DTL-43511D standard for military vehicle ballistic visors adapted for personal use. The 2.5 bar blast overpressure resistance during 2 milliseconds — certified in STANAG 4569 shock wave chamber — protects the operator from the blast wave of a PVC pipe IED detonation in confined space at distances over 1.5 meters.
The ARC (Articulated Retention Cradle) mount connects directly to the Batlskin V50 helmet's front Picatinny rails without tools or additional screws, allowing the operator to raise the visor to rest position on the helmet with one hand and lower it to combat position in under 1 second via the precision leaf spring retention mechanism. The 120° optically undistorted field of view — verified by MTF optics — maintains the operator's depth perception in the direct visual field, critical for IED manipulation at working distances of 30-60 centimeters.
