Sector
Resilient connectivity and automation for mining operations in Peru
Sector parameters
The challenge
Peruvian mining operates in some of the most demanding environments on the planet: altitudes above 4,000 m.a.s.l., underground tunnels without cellular coverage, dust, extreme vibrations, and potentially explosive atmospheres. Machine connectivity while in motion is the bottleneck limiting automation and operational safety. Conventional WiFi fails with truck and LHD mobility; analog radio systems don't support data or telemetry. EMAR SYSTEMS integrates Rajant Kinetic Mesh networks that follow moving machinery at 100+ km/h without dropping connectivity, enabling real automation and real-time personnel tracking.
Operational scenarios
01
Rajant BreadCrumb PE nodes are installed on trucks, excavators, and fixed poles. The network forms a dynamic mesh that automatically reroutes traffic as vehicles move, ensuring continuous connectivity for telemetry, safety video, and VoIP without dead zones or perceptible handoffs.
02
Rajant's BreadCrumb ME is designed for tunnels with optional ATEX certification. Nodes installed every 200-300 m form a wireless fiber backbone: LHDs and mine personnel maintain VoIP, RFID tracking, and real-time video regardless of distance to the surface.
03
Compliance with Supreme Decree 023-2017-EM (mining safety regulations): real-time location of all personnel in the mine, automatic exclusion zone alerts, and evacuation system with personnel count. The Rajant network provides the transport for tracking applications with no additional infrastructure.
04
Continuous transmission of geotechnical sensor data (accelerometers, inclinometers, piezometers) to the operation's early warning system. The mesh network guarantees transmission even when part of the infrastructure goes offline due to blasting or a collapse.
