Rajant Corporation
BreadCrumb ME Underground Node
Technical specifications
Technical overview
Underground mining is the world's most hostile network environment: 4-5 meter wide galleries that act as radio signal waveguides, silica dust that destroys non-sealed electronics, flammable gases that make any ignition source an explosion risk, and the complete absence of GPS for positioning. Rajant's BreadCrumb ME is the only Kinetic Mesh network solution with ATEX/IECEx certification to operate in these conditions without a safety waiver.
The InstaMesh protocol solves the specific underground gallery problem: as the tunnel boring machine or jumbo drill advances, a new ME node is simply added every 200-300 meters — the network extends automatically without reconfiguration. Existing nodes recognize the new member within seconds and begin routing traffic through it. The result is an IP network that reaches the face in real time, supporting voice communications, equipment telemetry, gas detection systems, and security video streaming on the same infrastructure.
