Bitstream Edge Router Tactical Router for Mesh Networks and Combat Cloud Communications
Technical specifications
Technical overview
The Bitstream Edge Router is the tactical connectivity node designed for the 21st century command post: it provides persistent access to the combat cloud and centralized C2 services regardless of which communications link is available at each moment of the mission cycle.
The device supports up to 4 simultaneous WAN interfaces — SATCOM (X.21/HDLC port), LTE/5G (swappable internal module), IP radio (Ethernet from VHF/UHF/SATCOM radio ODU), and fiber or Ethernet cable — and applies adaptive SD-WAN to distribute traffic among available links according to their latency, bandwidth, and assigned mission cost. Switchover time on primary link failure is less than 50 milliseconds, imperceptible to VoIP and video applications.
The mission-based QoS policy allows the J6 to define priority profiles that guarantee minimum bandwidth for critical applications — tactical situation update, secure voice, and UAV video — before allocating residual capacity to administrative traffic. AES-256 encryption with key management via NSA Suite B-compatible EKMS protects all transmission without requiring an additional external encryptor. The 1U rack format allows installation in the standard NATO shelter rack.
