Technical overview
The Kalkitech Feeder Automation is the feeder automation system designed to reduce SAIDI (System Average Interruption Duration Index) and SAIFI (System Average Interruption Frequency Index) for Peruvian distribution companies facing increasingly demanding OSINERGMIN regulatory targets, implementing the FLISR algorithm without replacing existing reclosers, sectionalizing switches, or SCADA.
The FLISR (Fault Location, Isolation and Service Restoration) algorithm operates in three automatic phases: detects fault location by correlating fault current signals recorded by reclosers upstream and downstream of the fault point; isolates the faulted section by operating only the switches that minimize the no-service area; and restores service to healthy customers by operating the normally-open sectionalizser of the backup feeder, all in under 90 seconds from fault inception.
Integration with reclosers from the three dominant manufacturers in the Peruvian market — SEL, ABB, and Schneider Electric — is achieved via DNP3 or IEC 61850 GOOSE protocol without replacing the existing recloser firmware, enabling automation deployment over already-installed and amortized field infrastructure. The interface with the dispatch SCADA via IEC 61968-3 CIM maintains real-time network status visibility for the dispatcher, who can supervise the FLISR process or intervene manually at any point in the automatic cycle.
The post-fault analysis module automatically generates the event report with the operation sequence, fault current trace, isolated section, and restoration time in a format compatible with OSINERGMIN reporting forms, reducing administrative work for operations staff after each incident.
