Technical overview
The Galvion ARC NVG Adapter is the integration component that connects the modern soldier's night vision ecosystem — monoculars, binoculars, augmented reality systems — to the ARC rail of the Batlskin ballistic helmet, solving the compatibility problem between night vision accessories from different generations and manufacturers that coexist within the same tactical unit during the transition to the US Army IVAS system.
Compatibility with IVAS (Integrated Visual Augmentation System, based on Microsoft's military HoloLens 2) allows units receiving the first IVAS lots to mount the device on the same helmet where they currently use an AN/PVS-14 monocular, without needing a different helmet or modifying the existing ARC rail. The adapter includes the J-arm mounting profile compatible with the IVAS front bracket and the Wilcox L4G24 profile compatible with AN/PVS-14 and AN/PSQ-36, selectable via a 3-second tool-free interchange lever.
The 14-degree tilt adjustment in 1-degree increments with positive lock via cam lever allows the operator to calibrate the optical axis of the night vision system to their interpupillary distance and usage preference without tools in the field. The shroud-type quick-release mechanism with anti-loss bayonet retention ensures the night vision system can be dismounted with gloves in under 2 seconds to transition to vehicle interior or reduce the helmet profile in confined spaces.
The 87-gram weight — including the adjustment mechanism and mounting shroud — minimizes neck torque on the wearer compared to previous-generation adapters, reducing cervical fatigue in extended nocturnal operations where the AN/PVS-14 monocular already adds 440 grams to the helmet.
