PTP class A grandmaster clock with multi-constellation GNSS receiver (GPS/GLONASS/Galileo). Distributes UTC time with < 100 ns accuracy to the entire network of substations, protection IEDs, and SCADA systems via IEEE 1588v2 and PPS/IRIG-B.

Technical overview
Bitstream's GNSS grandmaster is the primary time reference node for substation protection and control networks where timestamp accuracy determines the validity of fault records. Differential bus protection relays, disturbance recorders, and phasor measurement units (PMU) require synchronization better than 1 microsecond for samples from different equipment at different substations to be comparable — without it, post-fault analysis produces incorrect conclusions about the origin and sequence of the event.
The multi-constellation GNSS receiver (GPS L1/L2, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou) guarantees continuous operation even under partially obstructed sky conditions common in urban substations surrounded by buildings or under fiber cement roofs. The internal holdover with rubidium oscillator (minimum OCXO) maintains accuracy better than 1 microsecond during 24 hours of GNSS signal loss.
Time distribution to substation IEDs is via multiple simultaneous interfaces: IEEE 1588v2 PTP over Ethernet (for modern IEC 61850 IEDs), PPS (1 pulse per second) over RS-485 for legacy relays, and analog IRIG-B for previous-generation disturbance recorders — allowing a single grandmaster unit to synchronize the entire substation regardless of the age of installed equipment.
