Redundant Industrial Ethernet Switch
Technical specifications
Technical overview
Bitstream's Industrial Switch is the network infrastructure connecting IEDs, gateways, and SCADA servers within the electrical substation. In this environment, a conventional office switch would fail within weeks: high-voltage substations generate electromagnetic fields that destroy non-certified electronics, temperatures inside panels reach +85°C in summer without air conditioning, and voltage transients (switching surges) during circuit breaker operations can exceed 2 kV in common mode.
Bitstream's switch is IEC 61850-3 and IEEE 1613 certified to withstand exactly these conditions. MRP (Media Redundancy Protocol) ring redundancy recovers the network in less than 20 milliseconds upon any link break — meeting the IEC 61850 requirement that network topology supports RSTP <200 ms and MRP <20 ms recovery time. 256-bit MACsec encryption protects GOOSE and SV communications against interception and manipulation without adding appreciable latency to protection traffic.
