Zetron ACOM Aeronautical Communications System for Control Towers
Technical specifications
Technical overview
The Zetron ACOM is the aeronautical ground-to-air communications system designed for commercial airport control towers, military aerodromes, and area control centers (ACC) requiring a high-availability integrated radio system that meets ICAO and Eurocontrol standards for air traffic control operations.
The ACOM distributed architecture separates the VHF/UHF radio transceivers — installed in the tower equipment room or remote antenna sites — from the controller positions connected over IP network, allowing the use of certified radio equipment from multiple manufacturers with a single unified operator interface. Each controller position provides access to all VHF/UHF channels at the facility with touchscreen PTT controls, 121.5 MHz guard frequency monitoring, and automatic recording of all transmissions.
Active-active redundancy with automatic switchover in under 50 ms guarantees ATC communications continuity upon any hardware or network failure, meeting the 99.999% availability requirement of critical aeronautical operations. The integrated recording system archives all communications on all channels with GPS-synchronized timestamps for aviation incident and accident investigations.
