Technical overview
The Polo Marconi VHF Ground is the aeronautical radio communications base station designed for air traffic control towers (ATC), military air bases, and remote aeronautical stations where the reliability of tower-to-aircraft communications is literally a flight safety matter under the ICAO Annex 10 regulatory framework.
The station operates in the civil air-ground communications band (118–136.975 MHz) and the military UHF aeronautical band (225–400 MHz) in the same 2U rack chassis with 8.33 kHz channel selectivity for operation in high-density airspace. The active-active redundancy architecture uses two identical transmit-receive modules operating simultaneously — not in primary-backup mode — with automatic switchover upon RF power degradation, anomalous VSWR, or power failure in less than 10 milliseconds, an imperceptible time for pilots in active communication.
The remote monitoring system includes an embedded web server that exposes output power, antenna VSWR, operating frequency, current consumption, and alarm history in real time via the management Ethernet port, without proprietary management tools. The GPS-timestamped communications log of each received and emitted transmission provides the audit trail required by air traffic incident investigation procedures.
