Technical overview
The Fischer Connectors D-Sub Tactical series are the military-grade ruggedized D-Sub connectors designed for tactical communications equipment, embedded avionics systems, and critical infrastructure control units that use the standard RS-232/RS-422/RS-485 D-Sub interface for serial communications, low-level analog signals, and low power supply, and need that ubiquitous interface to maintain its integrity in extreme operational environments where standard commercial connectors would fail from corrosion, vibration, or water penetration.
The connector adopts the standard ANSI/EIA-574 D-Sub dimensions (2.74 mm contact pitch, 0° to 90° insertion angle) for interoperability with the universe of existing equipment with D-Sub interfaces, while elevating engineering specifications to military level in all critical parameters: the 2.5 mm thick hard-anodized 6061-T6 aluminum housing instead of commercial D-Sub die-cast zinc provides 4× superior mechanical resistance to vehicle impacts and vibrations; the IP67 sealing with double-lip O-ring on the housing perimeter protects contacts from water penetration during equipment washing and heavy rain; and 0.8 μm (minimum) gold-plated beryllium copper contacts guarantee stable contact resistance below 10 mΩ after 500 mating/unmating cycles in salt-humid conditions.
The 5 A per contact current capacity (versus the typical 1 A of low-density commercial D-Sub) allows using the same connector for RS-422 serial communication signals and for auxiliary device power supply up to 15 W — eliminating the need for a separate power connector in designs where front panel space is limited. The -55°C to +125°C operating temperature range covers all tactical deployment scenarios from Arctic to coastal desert installations, and the MIL-DTL-24308 specification guarantees full interoperability with military D-Sub connectors in the existing inventory.
