The COHU Long-Range Thermal is the long-range thermal surveillance system designed for early detection of intrusions at the most demanding perimeters — land borders of thousands of kilometers, nuclear plants with multi-layer perimeters, strategic storage facilities, and military bases in conflict zones — where detection at kilometers of distance enables response before the threat reaches the protected zone.
The vanadium oxide (VOx) 640×512 pixel detector with 12 µm pitch and 25 mK thermal sensitivity at room temperature operates without requiring cryogenic cooling, eliminating startup time, cryocooler maintenance, and mechanical noise that would betray the sensor's position in discreet surveillance environments. The 30 to 900 mm continuous zoom optical system with nanometric precision motor allows detecting a standing human silhouette at 8 km, identifying whether it carries visible weaponry at 4 km, and recognizing facial features at 2 km — meeting the DRI (Detection-Recognition-Identification) model of NATO STANAG 4347 standards.
The deep learning-based multi-object automatic tracking engine simultaneously detects and classifies up to 32 moving targets — persons, light vehicles, heavy vehicles, low-altitude aircraft — assigning each target a velocity vector and predicted trajectory, alerting the operator when the target crosses configurable alert lines or its predicted trajectory intersects the protected zone in less than X minutes. Thermal image fusion with the co-axially registered visible camera allows the operator to switch between pure thermal, pure visible, and adjustable electronic fusion modes to confirm the nature of the threat before activating the response.
