Cohu
Cohu Coastal Radar Coastal Radar System for Vessel and UAS Detection in Maritime Perimeter
Technical specifications
Technical overview
The Cohu Coastal Radar is the maritime surveillance system designed for the port facility, naval base, and coast guard post that need automated detection and continuous tracking of all vessels approaching the security perimeter — from 5-meter fast boats operating at high speed with low radar signature to 200-meter vessels on berthing approach — as well as UAS (drone) detection representing the emerging intelligence and disruption threat against sensitive maritime facilities.
The X-band (9.3-9.5 GHz) radar with 1.2-meter slot antenna and 0.9° horizontal aperture beam provides sufficient angular resolution to distinguish two vessels separated by 30 meters at 10 km range, a critical condition at the entrance of high-traffic ports where multiple vessels converge simultaneously. The CFAR (Constant False Alarm Rate) adaptive signal processor maintains a constant false alarm rate regardless of sea clutter conditions — sea state 4 or higher with 2.5-meter waves — without overwhelming the operator with spurious alarms from wave crest foam.
Integration with the Cohu video management system automatically links each radar target to the nearest PTZ camera: when the radar detects a new target, the system orders the assigned camera to point to the target coordinates and activate optical zoom for visual identification at range, fusing radar information (GPS position, speed, heading, signature size) with real-time video in a single operator display. Data output in ASTERIX CAT-240 format (EUROCONTROL radar surveillance standard) allows direct integration with Peruvian Navy General Directorate of Captaincies C2 systems and AIS (Automatic Identification System) maritime traffic management systems.
