Technical overview
The Zetron ACOM solves the most persistent interoperability problem in Latin American public safety systems: a typical mid-sized city operates with radio fleets from different decades and manufacturers — 1990s Motorola analog radios, 2000s Hytera DMR radios, and a newly installed P25 Phase 2 infrastructure. Without a gateway, these systems are islands: police cannot talk to firefighters, and firefighters cannot talk to EMS.
The ACOM acts as a universal radio protocol translator. Each port can connect to a different system, and the gateway interconnects configured talk groups in real time without perceptible latency. Configuration is by software, without modifying existing radios or infrastructure — simply connect the ACOM between systems and define which groups talk to which groups. This approach is preferred by interior ministries for interoperability projects because it eliminates the need for massive fleet migrations and allows progressive phases.
