Theon Minion Clip-On Miniature Clip-On Thermal Sight for Assault Rifles and Sniper Rifles with Day Scope
Technical specifications
Technical overview
The Theon Minion Clip-On is the clip-on thermal sight designed for the infantry soldier who needs nocturnal detection capability without replacing their calibrated day scope — because re-zeroing the scope in the field requires time, adjustment ammunition, and visibility conditions that are frequently unavailable during the day-to-night transition in continuous-cycle operations — and without adding significant weight to the weapon system.
The 30mm bayonet clip-on system adapts via 26 to 56mm diameter rings to the front objective of any day scope — from the ACOG 4× to a 12× sniper scope — and transmits the LWIR thermal image through the existing day scope optics to the shooter's eye, without altering the day scope's optical path for daytime vision when the Minion is removed. The clip-on and removal process is 8 seconds without tools.
The 320×240 px 17μm pitch LWIR detector with NETD <45 mK provides 550m person detection range (STANAG 4347 D criterion) and 200m identification range — sufficient for infantry night engagement in the 0-300m range where 85% of contacts occur in urban combat — with only 270g of weight added to the weapon system, less than a standard tactical flashlight. The two standard AA batteries (available at any logistics point and civilian stores in the operations area) provide 6 hours of autonomy at -10°C temperature.
