Morad VHF Airborne Wide-Band VHF Airborne Radio for Air-Ground Coordination in Military Aviation
Technical specifications
Technical overview
The Morad VHF Airborne is the airborne VHF radio designed for the air-ground coordination mission where Peruvian military aviation — Army MI-171Sh helicopters, Police Bell 412 helicopters, Navy CN-235 maritime patrol aircraft — needs to communicate with ground units in the 30-90 MHz VHF band, which is the predominant band of ground force portable and vehicular radios and HF/VHF radio networks in the remote areas where national aviation operates.
The 30 to 90 MHz range in a single receiver — without hardware change — simultaneously covers military VHF infantry radio operating frequencies (30-80 MHz), fixed-wing aviation air-to-ground coordination frequencies (40-50 MHz), and Amazonian indigenous community radio frequencies used as position reference in humanitarian support operations and VRAEM, eliminating the need to carry two radios in the cockpit to cover the full coordination spectrum.
The optional 50W power amplifier extends the air-to-ground communication range to 80 km in flight at 1000 meters above terrain — double the range of the base 10W unit — for long-range patrol missions where the voice link is the only coordination means with the forward operating base. DO-160G certification (section 8 vibration, section 9 aircraft shock, section 7.3 altitude temperature) validates performance under Peruvian Armed Forces helicopter avionics conditions operating on the Andean altiplano at 4500 meters altitude.
