The Morad RRC-9201 is the automatic vehicular relay station designed to solve the most frequent coverage problem in ground operations in mountainous terrain like the Andean highlands or the Amazon jungle: infantry unit VHF/UHF radios have a line-of-sight range of 5-15 km limited by topography, and when the column disperses along a mountain slope or penetrates a canyon, the forward elements lose communications with the rear command post without available network infrastructure to compensate for the coverage loss.
The RRC-9201 installs in a support vehicle — a truck, Humvee, or even a fixed-wing UAV — positioned at the point of best terrain coverage, such as a hilltop or road junction. The automatic relay system detects any active transmission on any of its 6 configured channels and simultaneously retransmits it to all other system channels with latency under 15 ms — the radio operator in the forward unit doesn't need to change channels or know they're using a relay, communication with the rear command post is transparent. The 6 channels operate simultaneously and independently across the full 30 to 512 MHz range covering military VHF bands (30-88 MHz, 136-174 MHz) and military UHF bands (225-400 MHz, 403-512 MHz) without hardware reconfiguration between bands.
Remote management via IP tactical data network allows the communications officer at the command post to reconfigure relay frequencies, voice activation thresholds (VOX) per channel, and system status in real time without sending a technician to the relay vehicle — critical when the vehicle is positioned at an exposed or inaccessible point. The system continuously reports its operational status, battery level, and RF module temperatures to the tactical network management server via SNMP over the tactical IP network.
