Technical overview
The Drones Latam Mesh Relay is the unmanned aerial platform designed to solve the most critical problem of tactical terrestrial communication networks in Latin America: terrain masking that fragments the mesh network into isolated sub-networks when units move through river basins, Andean valleys, dense jungle, or urban environments with elevated building profiles — causing the network node an operator carries on their vest to be unable to directly communicate with the command post node two kilometers in a straight line but with a 200-meter hill between them.
The Mesh Relay carries a TrellisWare TSM-S software-defined node in its 800-gram payload frame at 100 meters AGL, a position from which the airborne node has direct line of sight with all ground nodes in the network within a 15-kilometer radius over moderately rugged terrain — converting the fragmented network into a fully connected network with a single 2-hour flight. The flight management system maintains hover position at ±2 meters with GPS+RTK without operator intervention throughout the mission, automatically returning to the launch base when the battery reaches the reserve level calculated to guarantee safe landing.
Native integration with ATAK via the TrellisWare plugin allows all WinTak, ATAK-Android, and ATAK-CivTAK packets flowing through the mesh network to be relayed without modification through the airborne node, including map layers, friendly unit positions (Blue Force Tracking), target markers, UAV video, and operations room chat messages — without additional configuration or protocol gateways.
